Herd Health & Wellness
Dr. Helen Brown grew up in Santa Ynez, California, where she developed a passion for horses at her grandparent's farm, where they raised Peruvian Paso horses. Dr. Brown spent every free moment possible at her grandparent's ranch, riding and showing their horses. It was under their guidance that she developed a passion for horses and veterinary medicine. Dr. Brown earned her Bachelors of Science in Equine Science with minors in Spanish and Business from Colorado State University. While attending CSU, Dr. Brown participated in an undergraduate internship program at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, working with Dr. Karen Wolfsdorf. After finishing her degree, Dr. Brown returned to Hagyard to complete a sales season and another breeding season with Dr. Wolfsdorf, followed by a southern hemisphere breeding season in Australia at Tamworth Equine Veterinary Center. After returning to the United States, Dr. Brown attended the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. While in veterinary school, Dr. Brown was heavily involved in student life serving as a class officer for all four years, SCAAEP officer, SCIVDI officer, as well as earning a certificate in Veterinary Business Management. Dr. Brown recently completed Hagyard's field internship and is excited to join the field team as an associate veterinarian. Dr. Brown's veterinary interests include theriogenology, neonatology, emergency medicine, lameness, imaging, field surgery, and business management. In her free time, she can be found enjoying the outdoors with her dog, Anka, cozying up to read a goodbook with her kitten, Melman, or listening to a good podcast while trying new recipes in the kitchen.
