Dr. Hughes grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. After being involved in the horse industry for many years, she decided in college that she wanted to become a vet so she could provide care to keep horses happy and healthy. Dr. Hughes chose Hagyard because of the wonderful mentors at the practice. She enjoys cases involving herd health, reproduction, neonatal foal care in the field, and emergency/field critical care. Her favorite veterinarian memories are those when a horse does well through therapy and are able to return back to their normal selves. She says it is the best feeling to know that you've helped an animal. Outside of work, Dr. Hughes enjoys gardening and spending time with her two dogs, Guinness and Minnie. She also has three cats named Stevie Wonder, Ginger and Carrot. She is a Kentucky Wildcats fan and cannot live without her coffee!
