Veterinarian
Performance Medicine & Lameness
Dr. Escaro grew up between Atlanta, Georgia and Montgomery, Alabama and her love for horses was obvious from a young age. However, she didn't discover her interest in veterinary medicine until she began her competitive riding career in the hunter and equitation rings as a teenager. Through horse ownership, she was exposed to the degree of care necessary to maintain an equine athlete, and as her involvement with horse care and management grew, she decided to pursue a career as an equine veterinarian. Dr. Escaro attended Berry College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where she developed a growing interest in equine surgery, lameness, and advanced diagnostic imaging. After graduation, Dr. Escaro completed a yearlong surgery internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute; during which she became a FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian. This licensure allowed her to assist more senior veterinary officials at upper level equestrian competitions, further fostering her love of the equine athlete. Upon completion of her internship, Dr. Escaro went on to spend the next two years in the Northern Virginia area working for a large, multi-vet companion animal practice where she continued to nurture her love of both elective and emergency surgery. In January of 2022, Dr. Escaro returned to Hagyard as an associate veterinarian in the Performance Horse Department, where she currently offers both routine general care as well as specific lameness services to a broad and diverse sport horse base spanning multiple disciplines. Since her return to the practice, she has also obtained her certification in Veterinary Acupuncture from the Chi University in Reddick, FL. Dr. Escaro looks forward to incorporating the principles of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine into her daily practice in 2025. In addition to her work within the local equine community, Dr. Escaro acts as both a treating veterinarian and a veterinary official at both nationally and internationally sanctioned equine events across the country. When she isn't working, Dr. Escaro enjoys competing her own Kentucky bred off-the-track thoroughbred, Monty, in three day events around the region.
