Dr. Zent graduated from Cornell University, School of Veterinary Medicine, in 1963. He did an internship at Purdue University for one year followed by two years at the University of Kentucky, Department of Veterinary Science, investigating infectious disease outbreaks and pathology with Drs. Bryans, Doll and Rooney. From 1966 to present, he has been an equine practitioner at the Hagyard Equine Medical.
Dr. Zent served as President of the Society for Theriogenology 2005-2006 and is an active member and past officer of many professional veterinary equine organizations on the national, state, and local level. He has had the privilege of making numerous oral presentations on the national and international level, written several book chapters and routinely contributes articles for publication as requested. Dr. Zent presently serves on the committee for the Hagyard Bluegrass Equine Symposium as well as the committee for the 2010 and 2014 International Symposium on Equine Reproduction.
He and his wife are involved as owners and breeders in the Thoroughbred industry and reside on their farm in Lexington
