With more than 6,000 surgical procedures performed each year, Hagyard qualifies as one of the largest equine surgical hospitals in the world. The invaluable experience gained over time readily equates to better medical and surgical results, and has helped to place Hagyard Equine Medical Institute among the best equine hospitals in North America.
Horses are easily transported to the surgical suite and back to a recovery stall in order to safely recover from anesthesia. In addition, the Center is equipped with digital radiology and nuclear scintigraphy systems which are used under the watchful eye of a board certified radiologist. An equine high-speed treadmill also is in place to aid in evaluating poor performance and lameness cases.
Over time, several innovative equine surgical procedures and techniques have been developed at the Center. New techniques involving the gastrointestinal system, orthopedic surgery, and obstetric procedures are now commonly used by equine veterinary surgeons around the world.
